Americans with Disabilities Act

What is the ADA?

The  “Americans with Disabilities Act” is a civil rights law enacted in 1990, prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas including, employment, transportation, communications, public accommodations and access to state and local government programs and services.

What is ADA Paratransit Service?

Often referred to as “Dial-A-Ride,” ADA paratransit service is offered to Ventura County residents by local transit agencies in Ventura County. This service provides access to transportation by individuals unable to use fixed-route bus service due to a disability or condition.

What is the ADA Certification Program?

The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) established a certification system to determine whether an individual qualifies for ADA paratransit services. Based on established ADA criteria, you may be eligible for ADA paratransit services if you are unable to use the fixed route bus system. Mobility Management Partners (MMP) is the provider of these certification services in Ventura County.

What benefits are available to me if I qualify for ADA paratransit services?

With an ADA card, you are able to:

  • Use paratransit services in all Ventura County cities
  • If you travel with a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), they can ride with you for free
  • If you travel outside of Ventura County, you can use paratransit services in other cities or states up to 21 days per calendar year

How do I apply for ADA paratransit services?

If you are interested in applying for ADA paratransit services, an application must be completed by you or by someone completing the application with your consent. Once the application is submitted, MMP will review your application and will contact the licensed Health Professional listed on your application to have them complete a short evaluation form. To expedite this step please complete the following:

  1. Include the best FAX number for your Healthcare Professional
  1. Contact your Healthcare Professional and inform them they’ll be receiving a Professional Evaluation form via fax from MMP.

Once your Healthcare Professional has responded, MMP will reach out to you to schedule an interview in-person or by phone. During the interview you will have the opportunity to learn more about ADA paratransit service in your area and will be asked to answer some questions about your disability or conditions.
