Travel Training

What is Travel Training?

As part of our mission to promote improved access to a variety of transportation options for persons with disabilities, MMP has developed a comprehensive and robust travel training program based on our individualized “person-centered” approach that focuses on participants’ abilities and strengths and how these can be used to achieve their transit goals.

This approach results in higher levels of success and retention, and will provide the greatest long-term value to participants by presenting them with alternative transportation options.

Our travel training programs are available through partnerships with agencies such as Access Services in Los Angeles, the Orange County Transportation Authority in Orange County, and the Regional Transportation Authority in Chicago, Illinois.

For more information on MMP’s travel training programs and how they might benefit you or your organization, please  visit the links  to each program included below or contact us at (888) 667-7003, or via email to info@mmpcal.org

What are the benefits to  participation in Travel Training?

Participation in travel training supports learning the skills necessary to access public transit safely and independently. Learning these skills will open doors to multiple transportation options allowing participants to be able to plan:

  • Last minute trips to doctors and pharmacies without having to schedule rides using paratransit.
  • For long appointments that may interfere with being able to make it on time to a scheduled return trip on paratransit.
  • Able to take trips outside of L.A. County by using Metrolink and other transit companies in neighboring counties.
  • Participants gain independence and confidence throughout the process, allowing them the ability to plan their own schedules and travel when and where they want on transit!!
